Hi, I’m Jessica – owner and founder of Dirt Health.

In March 2017, a holiday to Vietnam left me searching for more meaning in my career. Soon after returning (thanks to a lot of persuasion from my wonderful husband) I left a job I was unhappy in and leapt into the unknown with no plan other than trusting what’s meant for me won’t go by me.

In May 2017, I met my now business partner Chris and the concept of starting ‘something’ began. Very naturally Dirt was created- simply by a collaboration of everything that was important to me and I had passion for. Incredible tasting healthy food, optimum physical and mental health, kindness to both people and the planet and taking advantage of fantastic local suppliers that are on our doorstep.

I have been lucky enough to work with some fantastic people over the years, and even more lucky that these people wanted to join me in Dirt. Along with a few new extremely talented and passionate people they now form my core team. Our team has always, and will always remain the most important part of my business. Without them this simply does not work, it is not Dirt.

One quote I’ve always felt summed up for my true aim with Dirt was from Tupac Shakur “Let’s change the way we eat, let’s change the way we live and let’s change the way we treat each other.”

A large part of our menu is vegan/veggie, however we do also have meat options. My decision in this was to help promote a balanced, plant based lifestyle that can still include meat, if you wish. Our meat is all locally sourced from the best local suppliers, only free range and ethically farmed. I started to feel a lot of people had lost the connection with the food on their plate, and I hope to help bring that back. Knowing the nutritional value is great, but what about the quality, where is it from, the chemicals it may contain and how it has been grown/farmed? In doing this I hope to deliver fantastic, healthy food that makes people more aware and inspired to embrace a plant based lifestyle, whether they are vegan or not.

People say business is business, but I don’t agree. This business is me, it is my team, it is customers we are inspired by daily. People are this business.

As a team, we are so excited for what the future holds and thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting the beginning of this dream.

Who we are

A large part of our menu is vegan/veggie, but we also have fantastic meat options. I am not focused on being one or the other, instead we create beautiful wholesome food and great effort goes into each dish regardless. My decision in this was to help promote a balanced, plant based lifestyle that can still include meat - if you wish. Sustainability is key in everything we do and I feel like this approach is the most helpful to both the future of our personal and planet health.

This business is me, it is my team, it is customers we are inspired by daily. People are building this business.

As a team we are so excited for what the future holds, so thank you so much for supporting the beginning of this wonderful journey.

Jessica & Team Dirt.

Our Core Values

Sustainability is at the forefront of everything we do. From the first thought of Dirt I knew we had to make it something that helped work towards a more sustainable future and protecting our planet. This made decisions like using absolutely no plastic and instead only compostable packing extremely easy. We deeply care about protecting our environment.

Ethical companies are the only type of companies we want to work with. People who share our moral principles and that we can be proud to work alongside.

Local companies make it easier for us to ensure we are working with great people and it also fits in with our sustainability aim. We have amazing resources so close to us- so we use them instead of importing from elsewhere. See our food ethos page for full supplier information.

Health is not only what we eat. Eating nutritious food is an essential part of the formula which also includes looking after our mental health, having an active lifestyle and being mindful of how we treat ourselves and others. Our message at Dirt is never to diet for a “bikini body”, instead learn to love your body then teach your mind to respect it. That is how optimum health is reached.

Real Cooking using whole ingredients to make everything we sell to our customers is just what we do. We have a team of talented chefs who make everything from scratch including our sauces, raw vegan cakes and spice mixes. This way we can assure you only quality ingredients are used, no chemicals, preservatives or refined sugars and at any point if you want to know what is in your meal we can tell you exactly that with confidence. And let’s face it- fresh food always tastes better!

Education is so important to us, we are constantly striving to learn and improve as individuals and as a company. Having a team of passionate people means we are lucky to learn from each other and are always happy to pass on what knowledge we have and why we do things the way we do. We learn from customers daily also and take this away and use it to evolve.

Your Space

This isn’t our space, its your space.

Our mission was to create a clean, simple, modern space which showcased the food in its best light. South facing and with a full glass frontage, this resulted in a light and airy space, perfect for socialising and catching up with friends and family over one of our delicious drinks or meals.

A space shouldn’t be age specific and we implore people of all ages to visit us. That is why creating a space where the little ones and older ones were welcomed in was of most importance.

We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Welcome to your Dirt, Heaton.
